McGown Museum. Cort Conley in Idaho for the Curious, a Guide (1982) mentions a McGown Museum housed in the old
Custer schoolhouse and ran by the forest service (p. 362). The Idaho Alamanac, 1977, also mentions a Custer Museum.
South Custer County Historical Society, Box 355, Mackay, ID 83521. They have the old printing press of "The Mackay Mine" newspaper.
Exhibits include lots of interesting items, like a horse hair coat. I was told that if a cowboy liked his horse a lot,
when it died he would have it skinned and made into a coat. The coat I saw looked very nice.
